Meet The Estevez Family
In 2015, the Estevez family met Jim at a casual walk through during an open house which began their search for a bigger home. Being a family of five living in a 3 bedroom 1.5 bath colonial wasn't cutting it anymore. Try sharing one bathroom with five people at one time—with only ONE sink—and you have toothpaste being spit all over you while jockeying for space in front of the mirror.
The choice of where to live was already predetermined as we had three children in Commack schools and didn't want to move them away from their friends. So, Jim, had his work cut out for him from the get-go as there were only limited options within our desired location.
Coming from a 3 bedroom/1.5 bath completely updated colonial with an inground pool and a basement, we wanted just a little more space to accommodate our growing family. We were looking specifically in the Tulipwood/Dix Hills area and wanted 4 bedrooms/2.5 baths, an inground pool, and a basement. We weren't asking for much… this should be easy, right? Or, so we thought!
Jim won our friendship over a mutual love of Pearl Jam with my husband. He stopped by to visit with us from time to time, giving us updates on the real estate market and occasionally bringing us a holiday pie. But in 2015, we were just not ready. I loved our home and our neighborhood, and I wasn't prepared to let it go quite yet.
But Jim stuck it out with us and patiently waited for us to be ready, giving us advice and listening to our wants and needs while never pushing us to sell our beloved home.
So in 2018, when we were ready to look again, he was the ONLY one we would contact to help us in our search. We were prepared to take that leap of faith. We now have an almost high school student who needed his own space, so it was finally the RIGHT time to find our "forever home."
Pulling the trigger
Finally, we were ready to put our house on the market and to look for our new home! Who would have thought that our house would sell in a matter of days BEFORE the first open house?! And now the pressure was on for us—and for Jim—to find a home so that our buyers could get into their first home. Thankfully we were lucky that our buyers were not in any rush so it would give us plenty of time to find our new home.
I won't say that it was easy, given the current market and low inventory in Commack. So many people were looking for homes to get into this area for the top-rated schools. I started to have doubts about whether we were doing the right thing and Jim always had a positive outlook, always telling us to move forward and to have our vision of our new home in sight. And though it took longer than we had planned, we DID find our home, and we are so grateful to Jim for sticking with us, for supporting us, for offering us advice when we needed, and of course to calm my nerves when the feeling of anxiety and stress would set in.
Our advice to you
Find a realtor that you can trust and rely on because this is a partnership and a BIG decision—you need someone honest, someone, who can give their opinions and to help talk you down off the ledge like Jim did for us countless numbers of times. You need someone you can rely on when things get tough when you question and doubt your decision to sell, someone who tells you to keep moving forward and not to look back because, at the end of the day, THIS is what you wanted. You wanted to find a new home, you made a decision because that's what your heart told you to do and this realtor, this person who has since become a friend is the one who will help you to make all the RIGHT decisions for you and your family.
We closed on our new home in July and turned over our keys to the buyers to our old house today. While sad that we moved from our first home of 14 years, we feel ecstatic about this new chapter in our lives. We know our first home will be in good hands with a great young couple starting where we did years back. Trust your gut, trust your heart... because it will steer you on the correct path.
